Higher Ground is one of the best cafes in Melbourne I think. It is located near Southern Cross railway station. I went the cafe when I was in Melbourne. it was rainy and chilly day. When I arrived there, I felt it is not too much a cafe but not restaurant. it is like a between cafe and restaurant. You can have a breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cafe has a quite nice atmosphere. If you are a couple, it will ever suit your date with your partner and if you are interested in taking a photo and going to post on the internet like an instagram, it will also suit you.
What I ordered
I ordered long black coffee. I usually order long black or flat white when I go to a cafe. These are my favorite way to drink coffee and especially, I like long black.
Inside of the Higher Ground looks very nice and clean as a hotel lounge. The coffee I ordered was very good and it smelled nice.I think Higher Ground is one of the best cafes in Melbourne and I recommend going there and have a breakfast or something. You could have a good time and it will be nice to start your journey of Melbourne.
How to get the cafe.
You can go there in 3 minutes by walk from Southern Cross railway station or 10 minutes by tram from Flinder Street station. If you take a tram from Flinder Street station, you have to ride 3 stops by Spencer Street and you have to walk 8 minutes from the tram stop and the tram numbers are 75, 70 and 35 which can take you the stop. Melbourne has great transportation systems like tram, train and bus. I think trams are very useful to go anywhere you want.
Free tram zone is amazing!
The city has the free tram zone that means you can ride for free in the zone. If you get out of the zone, you have to pay some money but if you are in the zone you can go anywhere for free. It is good for tourists but it is difficult to find where to where is the zone for visiter. You have to care about where you are now, in the zone or out of the zone. It is better to ask staffs than you find the zone yourself.
